Now, with the core & memory fully unlocked, the clocks are tuned to the exact of a stock 8800GTS 512MB. Let's see how it performs.

Good news, less than 40 points or 0.4% difference, well within the margin of error.

H9 points or less than 0.3% difference. Its pretty clear that the 9600GSO has sucessfully transformed into a 8800GTS 512MB!

I am sure enthusiasts are familiar with the term "soft-modding". The days (of turning 9800SE into 9800Pro; 6800NU into 6800GT) are back! This time round, the spotlight is on the GeForce 9 series, namely the 9600GSO. In this extraction of the original guide, we will show you how to softmod a 9600GSO into a 8800GTS 512MB.

The first obvious question is:
"Hey, 9600GSO has only 384MB memory, where does the 128MB comes from?"

Very well, that is why you cannot buy just any 9600GSO and try to mod. You need this specific model, specifically the Galaxy 9600GSO OverClocked edition. Because this card contains 8 memory chips instead of the usual 6, making a 512MB 256-bit configuration.

Next, download the modded BIOS here,
flash it using the Magic Panel 3 & restart your PC.

As you can see from the screenshots on Rivatuner, the full 128-shaders on the G92 chip has been unlocked, together with the 2 unused memory chips. Now the only thing left to do is, of course.. bench it!
