"One of the most drawn-out transfer sagas of the summer has come to an end with Liverpool confirming they have agreed a fee with Real Madrid for the sale of Xabi Alonso.
The deal is believed to be in the region on £30 million, although Liverpool have pledged to keep the terms of the deal "confidential and undisclosed."
A statement on the team's website said: "Liverpool football club have reached [an] agreement for the sale of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid, subject only to a medical.
"The terms of the deal will remain confidential and undisclosed."
Real later also confirmed the deal, stating Alonso would be arriving in Madrid today to undergo a medical."
